New Hope and Lambertville face each other across the Delaware, and many people who live in one spend half their weekends in the other. Still, choosing between them means choosing between Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and that brings real differences.
The practical side
- Taxes: property and income tax rules differ between the two states, so it pays to compare the full yearly cost, not just the price.
- Schools: New Hope–Solebury and South Hunterdon serve the two towns.
- Commutes: Lambertville sits closer to Princeton and New York routes, New Hope closer to Doylestown and Philadelphia.
The feel of each town
Lambertville is compact and walkable, with rows of Victorian homes close to the river. New Hope’s borough is lively in season, and just outside it the land opens into farms and wooded hills in Solebury.
Licensed in both states, Megan can show you homes on either side of the bridge in the same afternoon.
